Women play B1G Saturday this weekend, Men have Boilermaker Invite

MSU Men finish 4th at Tar Heel Intercollegiate
East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s men’s golf team posted its best round of the weekend in Sunday’s final round and finished in fourth place among 14 teams at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate, played on North Carolina’s par-70, 7,084-yard Finley Golf Course.

The Spartans shot a 2-over par 282 in the final round and finished in fourth place at 14-over par 854 (286-286-282).

Host North Carolina won the event at 1-under par 839 (280-281-278), one shot better than Elon, who finished in second place at even-par 840. Kennesaw State place third (1-over par 841), with the Spartans fourth (14-over par 854) and Duke in fifth place at 15-over par 855.
Michigan State’s best round of the weekend was aided by three golfers each posting scores of even-par 70 in the round on Sunday.
Sophomore Lorenzo Pinili was the top finisher for the Spartans, tying for 10th place at 1-over par 210 (69-72-70). Pinili closed his weekend with an even-par 70. Joining Pinili in the top-20 was junior Caleb Bond, who tied for 13th place at 2-over par 212. Bond was tied for 15th place after two rounds on Saturday and closed with an even-par 70.
Freshman Drew Miller tied for 29th place, posting his second-straight round of even-par 70 on Sunday. Miller finished the tournament with a 6-over 216 (76-70-70). Sophomore Lucas Acevedo tied for 49th at 10-over par 220 (70-73-77) and freshman Juan Velasquez tied for 60th place at 12-over par 222 (76-74-72).
Playing as an individual, freshman Joseph Canitano tied for 68th place at 16-over par 226 (74-73-79).
Michigan State closes out the regular season next weekend at the Boilermaker Intercollegiate (Saturday, April 19 to Sunday, April 20).
MSU Women: Three in the Top-10 as Michigan State Finishes in Second Place at the Buckeye Invitational


EAST LANSING, Mich. – Three Michigan State women’s golfers finished among the top-10 overall and the Spartans had their best round of the weekend in Sunday’s final round en route to a second place among 13 teams at the Buckeye Invitational.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament was held at Ohi State’s par-72, 6,319-yard Scarlet Course.
The Spartans entered the final round in third place but fired a 3-under par 285 and finished as the tournament’s runner-up at 13-over par 877 (295-297-285).
MSU was 11 shots off the pace of Ohio State, who won the tournament at 2-over par 866 (294-291-281). Ken State placed third at 16-over par 880, with Rutgers in fourth place (41-over par 905) and Indiana in fifth (44-over par 908).

Senior Brooke Biermann led the Spartans, finishing in third place at 2-under par 214 (73-72-69). Biermann’s final round included three birdies and 15 pars.
Junior Taylor Kehoe carded a 1-over par 73 in Sunday’s final round and finished in fifth place at 2-over par 218 (71-74-73).
Junior Paula Balanzategui had the team’s second-best round of the day on Sunday with a 1-under par 71 and finished in ninth place at 6-over par 222 (74-77-71).
Sophomore Ana Sofia Murcia posted an even-par 72 in the third round tied for 19th place at 12-over par 228 (79-74-72) and senior classmate Katie Lu tied for 19th place as well, finishing at 12-over par 228 (79-74-75).
The Spartans start the postseason on Friday, April 18 at the Big Ten Championships, being played at Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Md. The tournament runs through Sunday, April 20.
