ANN ARBOR, Mich. — University of Michigan men’s golf senior Hunter Thomson was selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America as a PING All-America honorable mention on Monday (June 9), becoming the first Wolverine to be honored by the GCAA since Kyle Mueller’s 2018 second-team selection.
Thomson becomes the 16th Wolverine to earn PING All-America honors. It is his second All-America accolade this season after being named U-M’s fifth Golfweek All-America (honorable mention), since the honor began in 1999.
With 58 golfers honored by the GCAA, Thomson is one of six Big Ten golfers to earn a selection, joining UCLA’s Pablo Ereno (third team) and Omar Morales (honorable mention), Illinois’ Jackson Buchanan (honorable mention) and Max Herendeen (honorable mention), and Purdue’s Supapon Amornchaichan (honorable mention).

An All-Big Ten first-team unanimous selection, Thomson concluded his U-M career as the program’s all-time scoring leader with a 71.53 average after breaking his single-season record with his 70.24 per-round average. He became the second Wolverine, joining Mueller, to lead the team in scoring average for four straight years. This season, he set a career best with 24 sub-par tallies in 41 rounds. With his 203 (-10) 54-hole NCAA regional total, he finished nine of 14 events under par.
Thomson paced U-M in 13 of 14 events, including the final nine tournaments, and recorded 10 top-10 finishes, with seven in the top five. A PING All-Midwest regional selection, he won three titles, including the Canadian Collegiate Invitational (202, -14), the Boilermaker Invitational (203, -10) and the NCAA Urbana Regional (203, -10).
Thomson never missed a U-M event, starting 50 consecutive tournaments. In his career, he compiled 26 top-10 finishes, 15 top-five results and four individual titles. Thomson recorded 66 sub-par rounds — 40 of which were sub-70.
