Plainwell, Mich. — A windy day usually means a field pretty spread out, but the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give, found an unthought-of development… a bunched up leaderboard.

Lexi Thompson goes low 68-69- 137

Just another solid round. You seem to really love this golf course. Talk a little bit about your round out there today.
LEXI THOMPSON: Yeah, I started off well. I had a birdie on the first hole and kind of fizzled for a little bit, but I just tried to stay positive. I told my caddie James out there that I was just trying to get out of the last seven holes with seven birdie looks. Unfortunately they were a lot longer looks than I wanted,
but ended up getting a few birdies coming in. That’s all I could ask for. Just tried to stay patient and positive.

. And just to get an idea of how this course is, how do you think you are able to get birdies out here? Is it
hitting it close? Fairways with them being tight? What helps get birdies out here? CELINE BOUTIER: I think you have to hit a lot of fairways. It’s very penalizing when you’re on the rough because it’s quite thick, and then you have no control over the carry or like the roll-out distance. I think the more you can hit fairways the better, and take advantage of the par-5s as much as possible. I think once you hit the fairway you kind of have — most of them you have a good chance of reaching them in two, so I think that’s quite helpful. Overall definitely puts a premium on the tee shots.

Q. Talk about this course. We’ve seen if you miss the fairway can get pretty penalizing out there. People
have still been able to put up some good scores missing the fairway. Why do you think this is?
CARLOTA CIGANDA: Yeah, you have five par-5s that you can score there, and then you have some downwind holes as well that you can make a few birdies. At the same time the greens are firmer than other years for sure and you still have to, yeah, hit good shots, good putts.”

Here with Leona and giving her bag to Blythefield Country Club.
LEONA MAGUIRE: Yeah, I mean, I’ve always enjoyed coming back every year, a lot of great memories here. Yeah, something for the members to remember me by here I guess, and hopefully look forward to better luck next year
