

MSU Men’s Golf Posts Win in Match Play at St Andrews Links Collegiate Women’s Story Below
East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s men’s golf team closed out play in the St Andrews Links Collegiate on Wednesday afternoon with a 4.5 to 1.5 win over the University of St Andrews in the medal match play round on the historic Old Course.
The Spartans were one of four schools competing in the three-day tournament, which started with two rounds of stroke play competition on the Jubilee Course and concluded with a medal match play round on the Old Course, where the game began centuries ago.
MSU had been leading the field after a 4-under par 346 in Monday’s first round but were edged out in the final holes of stroke play on Tuesday afternoon, finishing in third place at 3-under par 697 (346-351).
The consolation match on Wednesday featured Michigan State against the University of St Andrews, while the championship match included Cal and Princeton.
Michigan State Match Results
- Sophomore Julian Menser shot a 3-over par 75 and lost to Ethan Mangum, who fired a 4-under par 68, in Match 1.
- In Match 2, junior Lucas Acevedo, who finished the round at even-par 72, took a 3up lead after nine holes and posted a 4up win over Judd Sundelson.
- Junior McCoy Biagioli and Michael Crowley of St Andrews were all square through nine and each took a 1up lead on the back but finished their match tied, with both golfers shooting a 1-under par 71.
- Junior Lorenzo Pinili, who tied for second place in the stroke play portion of the event, shot a 5-under par 67 and won his match, 4up, against Winston Margaritis.
- Senior Caleb Bond had the team’s best round of the day, a 7-under par 65, and posted a 5up win over Ollie George.
- Senior Ashton McCulloch shot a 3-over par 75 in Match 6 and closed out Michigan State’s win with a 1up decision over Sam West.
