CINCINNATI — Wenceel Pérez’s pinch-hit, two-run home run tied the score, and Mark Canha’s double drove in the go-ahead run during a five-run eighth inning to lift the Tigers to an unlikely 5-3 victory over the Reds on Saturday at Great American Ball Park.

It was the fourth homer of the season for Pérez and the first pinch-hit home run of his career. Pérez is the fourth rookie to hit a pinch-hit homer this season.

Detroit managed only three singles in seven innings against Reds starter Hunter Greene but rallied late to post back-to-back victories for the first time since June 3.

It marked the Tigers’ second series win in the past nine and first since June 21-23 against the White Sox.

Parker Meadows’ double prior to Pérez’s homer marked the first time the Tigers advanced a runner past first base.

Carson Kelly’s RBI double drove in the fifth run during the eighth, when the Tigers sent 10 batters to the plate.

It was a planned bullpen game for Detroit, with Alex Faedo opening and Beau Brieske allowing two runs in 1 1/3 innings that followed. The Tigers used six pitchers.
