Heather Fortrushniak was recently named as the Oakland University women’s golf coach. She has a great gig. OU made the women’s NCAA regional at Michigan State last spring by winning the Horizon League Championship. Fortrushniak is familliar with Oakland. She played high school golf in Brighton and was recruited by former Grizzilies coach Alyssa Gaudio. In a decision she stands by Fortrushniak, trekked west to Kansas State to play women’s golf. What did not work out in 2019 was the perfect fit in 2024 as the grizzled vet impressed OU enough to beat out experienced NCAA coaches to earn her first college golf coaching position. We talk about her journey, her team and what’s next for the Women at Oakland.
