CCHA Hockey- Weekend preview for Oct. 10.10-10.13

All schools in action this weekend

All nine CCHA teams are in action across 18 contests from Thursday to Sunday. Bowling Green bookends play with its home-opening weekend, hosting Robert Morris on Thursday and Simon Fraser on Sunday in exhibition match-ups. Northern Michigan heads to No. 12 Colorado College, while Bemidji State battles No. 15/16 St. Cloud State in a home-and-home series.

No. 19 Minnesota State welcomes Merrimack to town for its home-opening weekend, while Augustana and Michigan Tech also play hosts to LIU and Alaska, respectively. Ferris State takes on No. 17 Western Michigan in a home-and-home duel and St. Thomas welcomes Vermont to town for a pair.

Lake Superior State has a pair of exhibition games on the docket, taking on the USNTDP Under-18 Team and Simon Fraser.

The Falcons step into an exhibition weekend with a Thursday night matchup with Robert Morris. The two teams split a home-and-home series to open last season. Bowling Green is coming off a sweep of Mercyhurst and their first 2-0 start against Division I opposition since 2018-19.

The Bulldogs battle nationally-ranked Western Michigan in a home-and-home series this weekend, starting off in Kalamazoo on Friday night. The series turns to Big Rapids on Saturday where Ferris State was able to come away with a 3-3 tie against the Broncos last season, after falling 6-4 on the road. The Bulldogs earned two come-from-behind ties last week against Miami (OH).

The Lakers head to Plymouth, Michigan, for a pair of exhibition games on Friday and Saturday. They face the USNTDP Under-18 squad on Friday night, before facing Simon Fraser on Saturday afternoon. Lake Superior State took then No. 4 Michigan State to overtime in their season opener last Friday.

Fresh off a 4-3 exhibition victory over rival Northern Michigan, Michigan Tech gets the regular season underway against Alaska at The Mac on Friday night. Tech is 25-7-2 against the Nanooks all-time, with the series dating back to 1937. The two teams split their three meetings last year, with the Huskies taking home a 3-2 victory at the Great Lakes Invitational after a tie and a loss to UAF at home in October.

The Tommies look to avenge a road sweep at the hands of UVM last season in Burlington, when the teams square off in Mendota Heights this weekend. The Catamounts blanked Megill, 5-0, in exhibition play on Sunday, while St. Thomas beat Manitoba in their exhibition game, before falling to then-No. 16 St. Cloud State, 1-0, in their season-opener.

Newly-ranked Minnesota State welcomes the Warriors to town to open a six-game homestand. The Mavericks split at then-No. 7 Michigan last weekend, winning 5-2, before falling 4-1. Merrimack dropped its season-opener to Stonehill, 3-2, after an exhibition victory over Sacred Heart. The Warriors lead the all-time series 5-1-0, but Minnesota State won the most recent meeting, 4-3, on January 3, 2000.

Augustana welcomes the Sharks to Midco Arena to cristen the 2024-25 season. This weekend marks the first-ever meeting between the two young programs, which are both coming off exhibition victories. The Vikings went into Ralph Englestad Arena and came away with a 4-1 victory over then-No. 5 North Dakota, while LIU won a shootout with Simon Fraser, 7-5.

The Beavers continue their early-season gauntlet with a home-and-home against in-state rival St. Cloud State. The series opens on the road for Bemidji State on Friday, before the home opener against the Huskies on Saturday. SCSU holds a 53-46-8 lead in the all-time series, which dates back to 1948. The Huskies are also 7-1-2 over the last 10 meetings, with the Beavers’ last win coming on October 28, 2022, at Sanford Center.
