How It Happened

  • Just 1:30 into the game, sophomore Breck McKinley brought the puck into the zone and dropped it for senior Jackson Niedermayer. Niedermayer found graduate Ville Immonen across the ice at the left dot. Immonen fired a shot into the net to give the Falcons at 1-0 lead.
  • Less than a minute later, at 2:05, the Falcons doubled the lead after junior Brett Pfoh found sophomore Gustav Stjernberg at the blue line. Stjernberg fired a shot towards the net that was tipped by junior Jaden Grant.
  • The Wildcats would get one back in a 4 on 4 situation at the 12:19 mark in the first period to cut the BGSU lead to 2-1 going into the first break.
  • Neither team was able to find the back to the net in the second period, but the Falcons won the shot battle 21-5 in the second period.
  • Five minutes into the third, Northern Michigan would tie it up, but sophomore Brody Waters would help the Falcons regain the lead with a goal. Graduate Ethan Scardina would drive through the slot and find Waters on the backside of the net.
  • Waters, on the powerplay, scored his second in as many goals for the Falcons at the 16:42 mark of the third and the eventual game-winner. Immonen found senior Ryan O’Hara behind the net. O’Hara found Waters in the slot for a one-timer slapshot to give the Falcons a 4-2 lead.
  • Northern Michigan cut into the lead late with under a minute left to play with a goal of their own to make it 4-3.
