The Men’s and Women’s collegiate seasons will complete their five event fall seasons by the end of the month and some teams are already heading south.

Observations

The men just saw USC with their first player of the week this week and the women did the same just a few weeks ago when Catherine Park became the first USC player to win the award.

The No. 5-ranked Fighting Illini men’s golf team finished sixth at the Windon Memorial Classic on Monday at Conway Farms Golf Club behind three individual top-15 finishers, led by senior Jackson Buchanan’s second top 10 of the season. In addition, Illini Men’s Golf Selected to Host 2025 NCAA Regional at Atkins Golf Club.

Big Week for Men’s Golf

This week, 12 schools are in action and five are playing in the Quail Valley Collegiate tournament in Vero Beach, Florida. No word on the conditions of the course. MSU hosts the tournament.

Big Ten (B1G) Golfers of the Week

Golfer of the Week– Isabella McCauley, Minnesota

Junior – Inver Grove Heights, Minn. – Simley – Business & Marketing Education

  • Earned the third win of her collegiate career at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate hosted at University of Denver Golf Club at Highlands Ranch.
  • Established a Gophers 54-hole scoring record by carding a 14-under 202 (66-68-68) with a furious finish that included five birdies over her final nine holes of competition.
  • McCauley earned both All-Big Ten and Academic All-Big Ten distinction last season.

Score: 73-67-69 = 209   
Gilkison recorded his third top-ten finish of the season in just four events. He utilized back-to-back rounds in the 60s in rounds two and three to climb up to seventh on the individual leaderboard.

Men- Golfer of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – University of Southern California freshman Jack Buchanan has been named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week for tournaments from October 4-10.

Becomes the first USC golfer to earn Big Ten Men’s Golfer of the Week honors

Finished tied for runner-up with scores of 64, 69 and 71 (-12; 204) at the Trinity Forest Invitational

Recorded 49 of 54 holes at or below par, including 17 birdies and his first 23 holes of the tournament played bogey free  

His first-round score of 64 (-8) marked the best single-round score by a freshman since now junior Jackson Rivera carded a 63 during the 2021-22 season

His three-round total of 204 (-12) also marked the lowest score by a USC freshman since Jamie Lovemark posted a 201 (-15) at the NCAA Championship West Regional in 2007

MAC Women-Flashes’ Kedronova Earns Golfer of the Week Honors

  • Event: Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational| Individual Score: 211 (-5)
  • Team Finish: 3rd | Individual Finish: 1st
  • Veronika Kedronova recorded her second individual win of the season this week at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational. Her efforts also helped the Flashes to a third-place finish as she contributed three consecutive rounds of par or better, highlighted by a 69 in round two.

Oakland University-Men’s Golf Continues Success with Second Place at Carolina Cup

By Sarah Turner- SPARTANBURG, SC – The Oakland Men’s Golf team continues their dominant performances with a second place finish at The Johnson Group Carolina Cup in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

The Golden Grizzlies bring back more hardware from the links in the Palmetto State. With a dominant final round of play (-3) over the weekend, the men’s golf team secured second place with a final score of 230 (+14). Throughout the weekend, the Golden Grizzlies improved their play each round. After the first round, where the team finished with 10 over par, the Golden Grizzlies improved to post 7 shots over par in the second round. In the final round, the Golden Grizzlies moved up from third place into second by shooting 3 under par.

This dominant final round of play was led by freshman Brennan Sullivan in his first collegiate start. Sullivan finished the weekend tied for fourth place, shooting one over par. An incredible outing in the final round, including an eagle on the 13th hole, helped Sullivan lift the Golden Grizzlies into second place. Robert Burns also posted a top-10 finish at the Carolina Cup. Burns also showed an impressive final round to finish 5 over par in the Palmetto State. 

This second place finish follows a first place finish in the Tom Tontimonia Invitational and second place finish at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational. The Oakland Men’s Golf team has kicked off this fall with consistent success from numerous Golden Grizzlies. With top-3 team finishes in the past three tournaments, the Golden Grizzlies look to continue this trend for the next two tournaments this fall season.
