MAC Men’s P-O-W 9.17

Isaiah Ibit, Kent State, Freshman, Orleans, Ontario
Event: Canadian Collegiate
Individual: 2 | Team: 4
Score: 67-69-68 = 204 (-12)
Ibit finished second at the inaugural Canadian Collegiate after firing three consecutive rounds in the 60s. In just his second collegiate tournament, Ibit was just two strokes short of claiming victory over a field of 55 players, including many golfers from power conference schools.

Other Nominee
Easton Phillips, Central Michigan, Junior, Coronado, Calif. (Coronado)
Event: Golden Grizzlies Intercollegiate
Individual: 19 | Team: 13       Score: 75-74-72=221

Easton Phillips placed 19th in the Golden Grizzlies Intercollegiate hosted by Oakland University. Starting the tournament on Saturday Phillips scored a 75 to finish three over before posting a 74 for two over later the same day. During the final round on Sunday Phillips hit for 72 to meet par, a Chippewas season best for an individual round. His total score of 221 falls three above his career best of 218 through 54 holes.

Great job by a school that is in its third year back after 37 years without a program. Keep it up Coach Jennings and student athletes.

Oakland University Men place A and B Teams in Top 5 at Katke Cousins

Nick Pumford told me last weekend he really liked the depth of his players. He was not kidding. He placed two teams in the five and placed individual players in similar positions. To make the NCAA tourney, you need to win the Conference. Pumford’s crew will be a force to be reckoned with. Who will play in the conference tournament next spring bears watching.
