College golf signing day: Top men’s players, classes for Class of 2025

Local Classes as received by www.skyviewsports.net and national classes below

Signing day is here, even if it’s unlike anyone before it.

The Class of 2025’s early signing period began Wednesday, meaning hundreds of student-athletes from across the country signed grant-in-aid agreements with schools. Grant-in-aid agreements have replaced the national letter of intent moving forward.

However, impending roster limits in college golf have shaken up signing day and like never before, leaving some players scrambling in the 11th hour to find a home. Most of the elite players haven’t dealt with issues, but elite players make up a small majority of all college golf signees, meaning a scramble has been occurring in the lead up to signing day.

On the men’s side, Vanderbilt is bringing in a spectacular class, with three top-20 players, including No. 1 Michael Riebe. Auburn, the defending national champion, also has a strong class, headlined by No. 2 Logan Reilly. Of the top-six schools in the rankings, five of them are from the SEC.

Michigan Golf Recruiting Class

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — University of Michigan men’s golf head coach Zach Barlow announced Wednesday (Nov. 13) the signings of Jordan Hwang (Richmond Hill, Ontario), Jack Harrington (Portland, Ore.) and Tristan Wieland (Jupiter, Fla.) to the Big Ten Athletic Scholarship Agreement. The Maize and Blue trio will be freshmen for the 2025-26 season.

“We were able to bring in a star-studded class,” said Barlow. “All three of these young men are eager to compete and they have a chance to make an immediate impact. Jordan, Jack, and Tristan each bring a different dynamic and set of skills that will benefit us. They have played at an elite level and against other elite golfers. We know those experiences will only help their transition to the college game. We know their best golf is still in front of them.”

Ranked among the Rolex AJGA’s Top 100 (99th), Hwang (“hw-ah-ng”) heads to Ann Arbor with a stellar golf resume and experience as a member of Team Ontario (2023-25).

“I’m all in,” said Hwang. “I want to be a foundational piece for Coach Barlow, and Coach (Matt) Hoffman. What they are building and their vision for the future of this program makes me excited for the next four years. I am eager to get to Ann Arbor and embrace Michigan athletics and its culture, but university life as well. Go Blue!”

In prep play at Richmond Green Secondary, he competed as an individual and won the 2024 OFSAA Championship (72-65/137, -7) by eight shots.

On the junior front, Hwang has recorded back-to-back U.S. Junior Amateur appearances. Winning his qualifier (70, -2) to earn a spot for the 2023 field, Hwang’s 142 (-1) stroke-play total earned him the 26th seed for match play, but he fell 4-and-2 to 39th seed Carson Brewer. The following year, his 68 (-4) gave him a runner-up finish in qualifying, giving him a spot in the 2024 event held at Oakland Hills Country Club (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.). With a 145-qualifying total, he missed the match-play cut by a single shot.

In AJGA play he posted four top-five finishes — finishing third at the 2023 AJGA Dana Incorporated (68-69-68/205, -11) and the 2024 UHY Detroit Junior at Forest Lake (69-70-68/207), tying for third at 2024 K.J. Choi Foundation Junior (77-73-70/220) and tying for fourth at 2024 Pete & Alice Dye Junior Invitational (73-71-73/217).

“I cannot wait to get to Ann Arbor,” said Harrington. “Michigan is a special place and I am thrilled to continue my golf journey there. I want to come in, contribute, and be as impactful as I can. The opportunity is there. There is no telling how far we can go, but I look forward to being a major part of it.”

“I am excited about joining Jordan (Hwang) and Jack (Harrington) and really making a difference,” said Wieland. “We want to make an impact and really help Michigan become one of the top programs in the Big Ten, but in the nation as well.”

In 2024, Wieland helped Jupiter win the school’s first Class 3A FHSAA State title after he posted a tie for 20th.
