Men’s Golf Claims Individual Wins at Two Events on Same Day
FARMINGTON, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) — Three members of the Eastern Michigan University men’s golf team combined to capture individual titles at two different tournaments that were played simultaneously at the same resort, Oct. 5-6, as Vicente Quiroga finished a three-way tie for medalist honors in the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational while Felipe Suarez and Robby Turnbull shared the top spot at the Shepherd’s Rock Individual. The events, both hosted by West Virginia inside the Nemacolin Woodland Resort in Farmington, Pa., saw Quiroga guide the team to a second-place finish on the Mystic Course while Suarez and Turnbull won their crowns on the Shepherd’s Rock Course.
How It Happened • Nemacolin Collegiate
At the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational, played on the Mystic Rock Course, Eastern Michigan shot Even-par 864 (287-298-279) over 54 holes to finish second among 16 teams as Seton Hall won the event at 1-under 863 (297-287-279), edging the Eagles by a single stroke, while host West Virginia finished third at 5-over 869. Both the Eagles and Pirates moved up two spots in the final standings as each fired rounds of 9-under, the lowest of any round in the tournament.
Leading the charge in that final round was Quiroga (Cochabamba, Bolivia/Tiquipaya School), who fired a 9-under 63 to tie the program record for the lowest single round. His 63 matched the mark set by Charlie Box (Leicester, England/Wreake Valley Academy/Hutchinson CC) exactly one year earlier at the West Bay Collegiate after he tied Tim Chan, who was the first to record the mark while playing in the 2024 White Sands Bahamas Invitational. Quiroga rallied from tied for 22nd after two rounds to finish tied for first individually at 5-under 211 (73-75-63), sharing medalist honors with Seton Hall’s Will Hennessee and Auburn’s Hampton Beebe. It marked his best collegiate finish after tying for 11th at the Highlands Invitational two weeks earlier and stood as the 27th medalist honor earned by a member of the program since the 1980-81 season.
Parin Sarasmut (Bangkok, Thailand/Srinakharinwirot) was the Green and White’s other standout in the team event, finishing tied for sixth individually at 2-under 214 (71-73-70). Sarasmut was steady throughout, posting rounds at or under par in rounds one and three to contribute significantly to EMU’s team score across all three days. His finish marked his second career top 10 showing after he tied for second at the season-opening Bombs Darts Birds Collegiate in college debut.
Box finished tied for 29th at 6-over 222 (71-74-77) while Arsit Areephun (Chiang Rai, Thailand/Samakkhivittayakhom/Delaware) finished tied for 35th at 8-over 224 (72-79-73) and Joshua Hess (Schattdorf, Switzerland/Montverde Academy (Fla.)) tied for 45th at 10-over 226 (77-76-73).
How It Happened • Shepherd’s Rock Individual
At the concurrent Shepherd’s Rock Individual, which featured 14 total players in the field and did not feature team scoring, Eastern Michigan swept the top two spots and placed three players in the top five. Turnbull (Auckland, New Zealand/Selwyn College) and Suarez (Cordoba, Argentina/La Santisima Trinidad/Missouri Valley College) each finished at 6-under 210, sharing co-medalist honors. The wins marked the 25th and 26th medalist finishes in program history and gave Turnbull his first collegiate win while Suarez captured his first as an NCAA Division I player after winning five times with NAIA Missouri Valley last year. Ben Sessions (Dunmow, Essex, UK/The Bishop’s Stortford) added a fifth-place finish at 5-over 221 (73-74-74), giving EMU three players in the top five of the individual tournament.
Individual Notes
» Vicente Quiroga’s shared title at the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational marked the 27th medalist honor earned by an Eastern player since the 1980-81 season and was the first in a team event since Charlie Box won the 36-hole Muirfield Shootout (April 20, 2026) last season. Quiroga also posted the first individual 54-hole win since Box captured the West Bay Collegiate Invitational one year ago.
» Felipe Suarez and Robby Turnbull were the top two through all three rounds and earned medalist honors for the program for the 25th and 26th times, respectively, since 1980-81. The wins also stand as the first in a non-team-scored event for the program.

Sukterm, Tsuru Finish Top 10 at Oklahoma Intercollegiate
Duo helped Eastern Michigan to a sixth-place finish in the standings in Wichita, Kan.
WICHITA, Kan. (EMUEagles.com) — Baiyok Sukterm finished sixth and Karen Tsuru tied for ninth to give the Eastern Michigan University women’s golf team a pair of top 10 finishers as the Eagles placed sixth overall as a team at the 2026 University of Oklahoma Intercollegiate, Oct. 5-6, in Wichita, Kan. Playing on the par-71, 6,127-yard Wichita Country Club course, Eastern posted a score of 5-over 857, which ranks as the third-best score in program history and the lowest in a par-71 event.
Host Oklahoma won the team title after shooting 13-under 839 with Missouri just behind the Sooners in second place at 11-under 841. Santa Clara finished third at 2-under 850 to round out the teams that broke par for the week while BYU (2-over 854) and Nebraska (3-over 855) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. The Eagles faced one fellow Mid-American Conference foe in Toledo, who was 11th at 34-over 886.
Individually, Sukterm (Bang Yi, Thailand/Panitchayakan Rajdamnern Technical College/Barton CC/Lindsey Wilson) was the Eagles’ top finisher as she tied for sixth overall at 3-under 210 (71-70-69). She was the only player in the 66-player field to post an under-par score in every round, closing with a season-low 69 (-2) in the final round to move up one spot on the leaderboard. Her 210 tied her own program record for the lowest 54-hole score in a par-71 event after shooting the same to win the Silicon Valley Showcase (March 30-31, 2026) last season.
Joining Sukterm in the top 10 was Tsuru (Carlsbad, Calif./San Diego Virtual School/Oregon), who tied for ninth-place at 1-under 212 (71-71-70), her second consecutive top 15 individual finish. Tsuru posted even-par or better in all three rounds and closed with a 70 (-1) in the final round as she finished under par in back-to-back tournaments for the first time since her 2024-25 season playing for Oregon when she accomplished the feat at the Alice & John Wallace Classic (-8 204), her win at the Juli Inkster Invitational (-13 203), and the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate Invitational (-2).
Savannah de Bock (Ecaussinnes-d’enghien, Belgium/Institut de l’Enfant-Jésus – Lycée/Georgia) opened the tournament with a 3-under 68 in the first round, the low round of the event among EMU players, and tied for 11th on the program’s all-time single-round list. De Bock finished tied for 29th at 5-over 218 (68-76-74).
Mariana Vega (Barranquilla, Colombia/Colegio Karl C. Parrish) finished tied for 48th at 10-over 223 (77-72-74) with teammate Julianna Go (San Juan, Philippines/Saint Jude Catholic School/King), who competed as an individual in her first event of the 2026-27 season, joining her in that position (74-75-74). Constanza Quiroga (Cochabamba, Bolivia/Tiquipaya School/Troy) shot rounds of 71 (first) and 74 (third), but saw her second-round score erased for a disqualification, leaving her with a two-round score of 145, which ranked eighth on the program’s 36-hole ledger.
Individual Notes
» Baiyok Sukterm finished below par for the third consecutive tournament to open the year and posted her second top 10 finish of the season as she shot 3-under 210 (71-70-69) to finish sixth overall. Sukterm, who opened the year with a third-place showing at the Leadership & Golf Invitational after shooting 5-under 211, tied her own program record for low 54-hole score on a par-71 course after shooting 210 to win the Silicon Valley Showcase (March 30-31, 2026) last season. Her score this week tied for the seventh-lowest in Eastern history while her 3-under finish tied for 10th all-time on the score-to-par list.
» Karen Tsuru also played consistently throughout as she tied for ninth at 1-under 212 (71-71-70) for the 15th-lowest 54-hole score in EMU history. It marked the second consecutive tournament Tsuru has finished below par this year after shooting 9-under 207 at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic (Sept. 21-22). It also marked just the third time in her career she has finished under par in back-to-back events as she accomplished the feat twice with Oregon in the 2024-25 season, including the Alice & John Wallace Invitational and Juli Inkster Invitational, an even she won, and then adding the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate Invitational the week following her medalist honors.
» Baiyok Sukterm’s rise toward the top of the leaderboard was facilitated by her steady play throughout as she was the only player in the 66-entrant field to shoot below par in every round. She tied for 12th in the field with nine birdies and tied for fourth for fewest bogies with just six total while Karen Tsuru equaled Sukterm’s marks in both areas.
» Julianna Go, playing as an individual, made her season debut for the Eagles and tied for 48th overall after shooting 10-over 223 (74-75-74). Her score was the second-best as a member of the team after she shot 3-over 219 at the Boilermaker Classic, April 6-7, 2025.
Team Notes
» As a team, the 5-under 857 score recorded by the Eagles ranks among the best in program history as the 857 strokes stand as the third-lowest overall score while the 5-over finish tied for the seventh-lowest score to-par in program history. Additionally, the 857 strokes broke the program record for overall score in a 54-hole tournament on a par-71 course, surpassing the 860 strokes recorded at the Silicon Valley Showcase last season (March 30-31, 2026).
» The team opened the tournament with a score of 281, which tied for the fourth-lowest single-round score in program history while the third-round 287 tied for 25th.
