Illinois Wins Men’s Golfer of the Week AwardFighting Illini’s Turnell claims honor after individual title

Illinois’ Freddie Turnell has been named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week for tournaments from April 16-23.

  • Earned his first victory at Illinois, the second of his college career, in a medalist performance as an individual competitor at the Hoosier Collegiate 
  • Carded scores of 72-70-70 to post a 3-round total of 212 (-1)  
  • Finished as the only competitor in the 88-player field to record multiple rounds under par 
  • Posted a 60-0 head-to-head mark against other Big Ten competitors in the field, which included 10 B1G teams and 10 other individuals from conference programs 
  • Tallied 10 birdies (second-most in the tournament) and one eagle (tied for first), and posted par or better on 44 of 54 holes

·       Shot a 4-under 212 (72-68-72) to win the Boilermaker Spring Classic hosted at Ackerman-Allen Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ind.

·       Shared the tournament lead with 11 birdies over three days

·       One of only three student-athletes in the 94-player field to finish under par

Freshman of the Week
Alexis Myers, Illinois

Freshman – Northbrook, Illinois – Glenbrook North High School

·       Earned a Top-5 result (72-75-70) at the Boilermaker Spring Classic hosted at Ackerman-Allen Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ind.

·       Shared the tournament lead with 11 birdies over three days

·       Helped lead the Illini to their second consecutive Boilermaker Spring Classic team title

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana will begin postseason play in Glendale, Calif. for the 2026 Big Ten Women’s Golf Championships. The conference tournament will be contested from April 24-26 at the Oakmont Country Club.

• Oregon, the defending Big Ten champions, headlines the conference tournament and rank No. 6 nationally. UCLA (No. 14), Northwestern (No. 30), Ohio State (32), Michigan State (40), Purdue (45), Illinois (49), Michigan (56), Maryland (67), Minnesota (73), and Penn State (75) all rank inside the top 75 of the Scoreboard rankings. Indiana ranked No. 46 in the latest rankings, released on April 20.

• Both the first and second round will begin with rolling tee times at 11:30 a.m. ET. The final round will start at 11 a.m. ET.

• Indiana will be paired with Illinois and Purdue for Friday’s action.

• Indiana has won eight Big Ten Tournament titles (1986, ’87, ’90, ’92, ’95, ’96, ’98, and 2024). Only Ohio State (15) and Michigan State (9) have more B1G crowns.
