Lottie Woad Goes Real Low at LPGA Kroger Queen Tourney

BOND HILL − Tough scoring conditions have set the tone for this tournament thus far, adding to Maketewah’s difficulty on top of the course’s thick rough, tricky greens and narrow fairways.

There was a shared lead after 36 holes, but Lottie Woad separated from the pack on a soggy Saturday in Bond Hill.

Woad holds a three-shot lead going into Sunday’s final round after carding a 65. American Amanda Doherty is in second place by herself after a 1-under (69) round. Some of the LPGA’s top players are still lurking on the leaderboard, though. Former Kroger Queen City Champion Lydia Ko is in fourth place and top 10 player Haeran Ryu is in third.

The Enquirer provided live updates from Maketewah in a rain-delayed third round. Here are the highlights.

Clubhouse leader Lottie Woad finishes with bogey-par

The par-4 17th hole has been difficult this week. Lottie Woad suffered a bogey on that hole but finished the round with a 65 after a par on No. 18. After an even-par opening round, Woad is 11-under over the last two days to grab the 54-hole lead. She currently holds a four-shot lead with one group still out there.

Lottie Woad has five-shot lead at Kroger Queen City Championship

The birdies keep falling for Lottie Woad. She has played the back-9 at four-under to move to -12 for the tournament with a five-shot lead over the second-place trio of Haeran Ryu, Lydia Ko and Amanda Doherty.

Lottie Woad has four-shot third-round lead at Kroger Queen City Championship

Amanda Doherty suffered a bogey on the par-4 13th hole to drop to 7-under and into a tie for second place with Lydia Ko. Woad just birdied the par-5 14th and now sits at 11-under with a four-shot lead.

Lydia Ko just found a birdie on No. 13 to move to 6-under and in a tie for third place with Haeran Ryu, who is 3-under today through 14.

Anne Chen, Rose Zhang card 66s

Anne Chen and Rose Zhang each fired a 4-under 66 on Saturday and currently sit tied for fifth place at 5-under for the tournament along with Lindy Duncan, Ina Yoon and Jeeno Thitikul.

Lottie Woad lengthens lead at Kroger Queen City Championship

With Doherty settling for pars, Lottie Woad now has a two-stroke lead after back-to-back birdies to begin the back-9. Woad is the first golfer to get to double-digit strokes under par (-10) and now has a two-shot lead over Doherty.

The par-3 ninth hole proves challenging as Lottie Woad reclaims lead

Lottie Woad bogeyed the 217-yard, par-3 ninth hole. Amanda Doherty just did the same, while Woad opened the back-9 with a birdie to retake the lead. Woad is 9-under and Doherty is one shot back.

Amanda Doherty back in front at Kroger Queen City Championship

Lottie Woad suffered just her second bogey over the last two days. Amanda Doherty took advantage with a birdie on No. 8 to jump back into the lead at 9-under. Woad is at 8-under and Haeran Ryu is in third place at 7-under.

Lindy Duncan, who teed off at 2:15 p.m., is 4-under through 16 and sits in sole possession of fourth place.

Lottie Woad has notched back-to-back birdies to grab sole possession of first place at 9-under. Amanda Doherty is 1-under through seven bogey-free holes and sits one shot back.

Lottie Woad just birdied the par-5 seventh hole to move into a tie for first place with Amanda Doherty at 8-under. Woad is 2-under through seven holes.

Nelly Korda falls to 15th

World No. 1 Nelly Korda has six pars and one bogey on her card thus far as she approaches the turn. She’s fallen to 3-under for the tournament and into a tie for 15th place.

Korda has hit 4 of 6 fairways thus far, but just 3 of 7 greens in regulation has left her scrambling for par.

Amanda Doherty holds solo lead at Kroger Queen City Championship

Amanda Doherty birdied the par-3 fourth hole to move to 8-under and into sole possession of first place. Her playing partner today, Jin Young Ko, is two-over through five.

Lottie Woad is in second place at 7-under. She is 1-under through six holes today. There is a three-way tie for third place at 6-under between Haeran Ryu, Jeeno Thitikul and Rio Takeda.

Amanda Doherty, Jin Young Ko remain tied for lead in Kroger Queen City Championship

Co-leaders Jin Young Ko and Amanda Doherty were the last to tee off at 4:05 p.m. Doherty was short on a birdie putt and tapped in for par. Jin Young Ko missed the fairway on her drive, then found the bunker, but still got up and down to remain tied at 7-under.

Final groups tee off in third round of Kroger Queen City Championship

The final pairings are off and running in the third round of the Kroger Queen City Championship. Nelly Korda opened par-bogey, Jeeno Thitikul has two pars and a birdie thus far and Chella Choi just doubled the par-4 third hole.

Lottie Woad had back-to-back pars to stay at 6-under in a tie for third.

Ryann O’Toole cards a 65, sits in tie for seventh

Ryann O’Toole suffered her only bogey of the third round on the par-4 15th hole. She responded with a birdie on No. 16. Then, O’Toole got up and down out of the sand on No. 17, then got up-and-down on the par-3 18th to finish the round at 4-under.

O’Toole’s only career LPGA Tour win came in 2021. She’s bidding for her second top 10 over the last month after finishing seventh in the Chevron Championship.

More trouble for Charley Hull

Reigning champion Charley Hull is now 2-over for the tournament after a streak of three consecutive bogeys during the front-9. She made the turn and opened the back-9 with a par on No. 10.

Ryann O’Toole, Lilia Vu climb into top 10

Ryann O’Toole was in the sand to begin the back-9, but was able to get up and down for par. She then birdied on the par-4 11th hole to get to 4-under for the day. She and fellow American Lilia Vu are 3-under for the tournament and tied for 10th.

Ryann O’Toole, Hye-Jin Choi eye the top 10

Hye-Jin Choi is 4-under through 12 and Ryann O’Toole played the front-9 at 3-under to move to 2-under for the tournament and just one shot back of the top 10.

Third round tee times updated at Kroger Queen City Championship

A light rain is still falling at Maketewah but the third round continues. Co-leaders Amanda Doherty and Jin Young Ko will now tee off at 4:05 p.m. Lottie Woad and Lydia Ko are the penultimate group at 3:55 p.m. Nelly Korda tees off alongside Jennifer Kupcho at 3:45 p.m.

Charley Hull opens third round with birdie

After a 280-yard drive that was just off the fairway, defending champion Charley Hull flipped a wedge to within eight feet and got a birdie putt to fall. The defending champion is in bounce-back mode after a disastrous back-9 on Friday ended with six bogeys in the final eight holes.

Hull has played the Maketewah front-9 at 5-under after her opening birdie.

Saturday rain interrupts a hot start for trio of players

Prior to the weather delay, the trio of Ingrid Lindblad, Polly Mack and Hye-Jin Choi were off to blistering starts on the front-9. Each player was at 3-under before play was delayed, moving to 1-under for the tournament and into a tie for 25th.

Here’s when Kroger Queen City Championship will resume

The Kroger Queen City Championship will resume at 11:25 a.m. Tee times for groups later in the day have been pushed back 2.5 hours. The final tee time will be just after 4 p.m.

The rain has arrived at Maketewah Country Club and the Kroger Queen City Championship is currently in a weather delay, the tournament announced.
