Michigan State’s women’s golf team shot an 8-over par 296 and is tied for seventh place among 12 teams after the first round of play at the Folds of Honor Collegiate, being played at American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven.
The Folds of Honor Collegiate, an idea created by MSU men’s golf Head Coach Casey Lubahn and Lt. Col. Dan Rooney, a former Kansas golfer who founded the Folds of Honor, was started five years ago as a men’s tournament and this is the second year with a women’s field. Since its inception in 2007, Folds of Honor has awarded nearly 73,000 scholarships totaling more than $340 million to the children of US Military members and first responders fallen or wounded in the line of duty.
Kansas leads the field after the first round at 4-under par 284, with Florida State and Texas A&M tied for second at even-par 288 and Arizona dn Duke tied for fourth place at 4-over par 292. Ohio State is in sixth place at 5-over 293 and the Spartans are tied with Kentucky at 8-over par 296.
Sophomore Sarisa Pojanalai and senior Keeley Marx lead the Spartans, posting rounds of 1-over par 73 to tie for 16th place.
Sophomore Lucia Valderrama is tied for 26th place at 2-over par74 and senior Ana Sofia Murcia shot a 4-over par 76 and is tied for 33rd place. Freshman Payton Haugen shot a 5-over par 77 and is tied for 39th place.
There are 22 different colleges and universities representing the 27 teams (15 men, 12 women) in the combined field. The field includes some of the best golf programs in the country, including eight ranked among the top-30 in the country in preseason polls, as well as Service Academies, a Division II team on each side and a men’s and women’s HBCU (Historically Black Colleges & Universities).
Live television coverage of the tournament can be seen on The Golf Channel, with daily broadcasts from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and again from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Rebroadcasts of the competition will also be aired. Last year’s Collegiate reached nearly one million viewers across 12 live & replay telecasts, one of the largest unique audiences for an NCAA golf tournament on Golf Channel in 2025.
