LEXINGTON, Ky. — Returning to Lexington Country Club to complete its darkness-delayed second round, the University of Michigan men’s golf team and the rest of the 15-team field had the final round canceled Tuesday (Oct. 7), as heavy rain and storms hit the Cullen Brown Collegiate. U-M tallied a 288 in the second round to post a 580 36-hole total and tied for 12th in the rain-shortened event.
With back-to-back 70s (-1), sophomore RJ Arone led the Maize and Blue, tying for 12th with a 140 (-2) total. With his two sub-par rounds, he has now posted 10 of 11 fall rounds under par and continues to lead U-M with a 69.18 scoring average.
After opening with a 74 (+3), sophomore Nicolas Simon bounced back with a 70 (-1) in the second round to tie for 44th with a 144 total. Making his first start of the season, sophomore Johnny Solis rounded out U-M’s top three with rounds of 75 and 73, finishing tied for 63rd with a 148 total.
After four events in the books, the fall season concludes with a trip to Kettering, Ohio, and the Moraine Country Club as the Wolverines play in the Moraine Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 13-14) hosted by Miami (Ohio).
