FOOT’S BAY, Ontario — The University of Michigan men’s golf team posted an 839 (-25) total to finish runner-up for the second straight event, highlighted by four of its five starters placing among the top 15 individually on Tuesday (Sept. 16) at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational at Oviinbyrd Golf Club.

After opening the season with a program-record 822 (-42) at the Island Resort Intercollegiate, the Wolverines stayed hot, carding three more sub-par rounds en route to an 839 (-25) total. U-M opened with a 279 (-9) in Sunday’s first round, followed with a 277 (-11) on Monday and closed with a 283 (-5) today to extend its streak to six straight sub-par team tallies to start the season.

The last time U-M recorded six straight sub-par team tallies was in the 2025 spring season, spanning a three-tournament stretch that included the Desert Mountain Collegiate (third round), the Buckeye Classic (first, second, and third rounds), and the Boilermaker Invitational (first, second rounds).

As part of a run of 10 consecutive sub-par tallies, the last time the Wolverines strung together back-to-back sub-par tournaments was in 2023-24, when they did it twice — first in the fall at the Virtues Intercollegiate and Little Rock Invitational (six straight), and again in the spring with an impressive stretch that included three straight events and the start of a fourth: the Palmas del Mar Collegiate, the Border Olympics, The Invitational at The Ford, and the opening two rounds of the Louisiana Classics.

The Wolverines secured their second straight runner-up finish, highlighted by four starters placing among the top 15 individually. Sophomores Dean Muratore (70-69-69) and RJ Arone (71-67-70) led the way, tying for fifth with 208 (-8) totals. Muratore’s performance marked a new career-low 54-hole tally.

Adding to U-M’s performance, sophomores Nicolas Simon (68-75-72) and Nilay Naik (74-69-72) joined their classmates in the top 15, tying for 15th at 215 (-1). Freshman Jordan Hwang rounded out the Wolverine scoring lineup, tying for 32nd with a 221 total.

Riding consecutive second-place finishes, the Wolverines head into the midpoint of their fall season and will tee it up Sunday and Monday (Sept. 28-29) at the inaugural Jim DeLapa Collegiate, hosted at one of Michigan’s top venues, Point O’Woods Golf and Country Club in Benton Harbor.
