Hunter Thomson is a grinder. He practices with a purpose, and according to coaches, ‘he wears down opponents with his mental game and consistent shots. It’s worked well as against long odds he won the Men’s Golf at NCAA Urbana Regional to post scores of (69-67-67/203 -10) to move onto the NCAA Finals in Carlsbad, California. Thomson has aspirations to play on the PGA Tour and after the NCAA Finals are over, he will turn pro this summer and is part of the PGA University. Using a final round of 67 (-4), Hunter Thomson posted a 203 (-10) 54-hole total to capture the individual title at the NCAA Urbana Regional to advance to the NCAA Finals in Carlsbad, Calif.
» Thomson becomes the third Wolverine to capture an NCAA regional individual title. He joins former U-M greats Lion Kim (2011) and Kyle Mueller (2018) on the exclusive list.
» Thomson earned U-M’s 13th individual trip to the NCAA Finals and first since Mueller’s trip in 2018.
» With three total sub-par rounds, Thomson set a new single-season best with 23 of his 38 rounds in the red. His 203 (-10) 54-hole tally marked the ninth of 13 events under par.
