NCAA Women’s Golf: OSU wins Clemson Invitational by 10 Shots

OSU beats out 14 Schools, including National Powerhouses and 4 other B1G Schools

OSU won the Clemson Invitational by 10 strokes over No. 2 Arkansas. The Buckeye’s had a three day 54 hole score of (-45)/819 to earn the team title. . The Buckeyes shot under par in all three rounds, firing a 16-under 272 in round three to tie the lowest 18-hole round in program history, which they set yesterday. The team combined for an impressive 10 rounds in the 60s and all five athletes in the lineup finished under par. The Buckeyes led the 15-team field in par 3 scoring (five-under), par 5 scoring (24-under) and birdies (74). Michigan State’s women’s golf team wrapped up the final nine holes of the Clemson Invitational on Sunday, finishing in 11th place among 15 schools with a score of 1-under par 863. Five B1G teams played in the event. Maryland finishes 9th and MSU just behind Miami of Florida.

Due to Sunday’s forecast, teams played 27 holes on Saturday, leaving the final nine of the three-day, 54-hole tournament to be played Sunday morning.

The event featured eight nationally ranked teams, including the Spartans at No. 23.

The Junior Sensation

Kary Hollenbaugh is having a sensational third season with OSU. She has won Medalist honors three times this season and produces in big-time golf tournaments. She had x birdies in the tournament to x bogeys. Hollenbaugh was bogey-free for x holes as OSU expanded their lead. She led Ohio State with a four-under 68. It is her eighth round in the 60s this season. She is tied for third place and she had six birdies on the day. She led the field of 83 players on par 3 scoring; she was three-under on par 3’s.

MSU’s Paula Balanzategui shoots career low

. The Spartans finished in 11th place and were one of 11 teams to finish under par for the tournament.

After shooting 7-over par 295 in the first round and even-par in the second round, the Spartans fired an 8-under par 280, good for the sixth-best round among all schools competing.

Junior Paula Balanzategui finished in a tie for 29th place after posting a 3-under par 213. Balanzategui went (76-71-66) over three rounds. Her third-round score of 6-under par 66 marked a career-best round.

Caitlyn Macnab of Mississippi State

McNab will go low in any golf tournament. Last fall at the MSU Spartans Mary Fossum Invitational, she broke the course record set in May of 2024 with a 61.

The No. 24 Ohio State women’s golf team closed out a record-breaking weekend at the Clemson Invitational by winning the team title on Sunday. Kary Hollenbaugh, the world No. 28-ranked amateur, won the individual title.
