Rahn Tobler is a legendary NHRA crew chief who has won four world championships with three different drivers in two different drag racing disciplines. Tobler has worked with just about every Hall-of-Fame race team and both the teams get better when he arrives, and the team’s excellence has made Tobler the 2026 inductee into the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing’s International Drag Racing Hall of Fame. Tobler was a part of four teams spanning three different decades, starting with Shirley Muldowney in 1980 and 1982, Cruz Hendragon in 2008 and his final one with Ron Capps and Don Shumaker.

Tobler credits his success to “hiring people smarter than him, and to let them “do their jobs.”

In this comprehensive 20-minute interview, Tobler talks about his career starting in 1971 and his recent retirement.
