SARASOTA, Fla. — Paced by senior Lauren Sung’s 11th career top-20 finish, the 53rd-ranked University of Michigan women’s golf team posted a 54-hole total of 910 to finish ninth today (Monday, Feb. 16) at the Spartan Suncoast Invitational at Palm Aire Country Club.

Lauren Sung fired an even-par 72 to lead Michigan to the second-lowest team score of the first round (296), while sister Sydney Sung contributed a 73 (+1) as the Wolverines climbed into the top three after 18 holes.

As scoring rose across the 15-team field during the continuous second round, freshman Reese Ng led the way with a 75. Michigan carded a 311 but held its place in the top three with a 36-hole total of 607.

Lauren Sung bookended her tournament with a second even-par 72, while Reese Ng added another 75 in the final round. With those tallies, U-M posted a closing 303, but its 910 total dropped the Wolverines six spots into ninth place.

With her pair of 72s, Lauren Sung paced U-M for the third time this season, recording her 11th career top-20 finish with a tie for 15th at 222. In her sixth start, Reese Ng earned a top-30 finish, tying for 29th with a 226 (76-75-75), while Sydney Sung’s 228 (73-78-77) placed her in a tie for 31st.

Highlighting the event was individual competitor Jaymie Ng, who rebounded from opening rounds of 77 and 77 with a final-round surge. She recorded five consecutive birdies — six total — to card a career-low 69 (-3), finishing tied for 17th with a 223 total.

The Wolverines will continue their spring heading back to the Sunshine State, as U-M makes its sixth straight appearance in Florida’s Gators Invitational at the Mark Bostick Golf Course, Friday through Sunday (March 6-8). Last season, U-M used an 879-team 54-hole tally to post an eighth-place finish.
