INDIANAPOLIS – The first day of qualifying at the 2026 Go Bowling U.S. Women’s Open, contested at Royal Pin Woodland in Indianapolis, concluded Thursday evening with Jordan Snodgrass of Adrian, Michigan, at the top of the standings.
Snodgrass brought momentum from her win at the Professional Women’s Bowling Association Barbara Chrisman Classic last week in Columbus, Ohio, setting the tone with an eight-game block of 1,898, averaging over 237 on the 45-foot oil condition.
“I feel like starting with a really good block the first day just takes the pressure off of the rest of the week,” Snodgrass said. “There’s so much bowling, but you don’t want to come from behind.”
Annalise OBryant of Ball Ground, Georgia, sat second with 1,893, while Liz Kuhlkin of Schenectady, New York, and Maria José Bohr of Colombia tied for third with 1,868. Diana Zavjalova of Latvia rounded out the top five with 1,861.
Rounding out the top 10 were Dasha Kovalova of Ukraine (1,842), Lauren Russo of Wentzville, Missouri (1,834), Sin Li Jane of Malaysia (1,808), Maryssa Carey of Hobart, Indiana (1,802) and Taylor Bulthuis of New Port Richey, Florida (1,782). Lindsay Boomershine of Brigham City, Utah, occupied the final spot above the cut line in 36th place with 1,669, just one pin ahead of Sara Duque of Colombia.
While the tournament is just beginning, with only eight games of a possible 56 completed before the telecast, the hot start puts Snodgrass in a great position to make her second straight U.S. Women’s Open show. Snodgrass finished as the runner-up to Singapore’s New Hui Fen last year in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Having come close to the title a year ago, Snodgrass is trying to keep her focus on the process rather than the outcome.
“This week, I just want to take it day by day, pattern by pattern,” Snodgrass said. “What happened today is great, and I’m grateful. I got a lot of score, and I feel like that makes the rest of the week a little easier mentally.”
The early lead also allows Snodgrass to avoid chasing a number as qualifying progresses.
“I want to keep getting more score to keep putting myself in a spot to where I don’t have to chase down the number late in the tournament,” Snodgrass said.
The strong start comes as Snodgrass continues her pursuit of a major title that has eluded her. With 16 games of qualifying still remaining, Snodgrass will look to build on her opening-round lead and position herself for another opportunity to contend for the coveted green jacket at week’s end.
Qualifying continues Friday and Saturday with eight-game blocks at 8 a.m., 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern. The top 36 after the third round of qualifying will bowl an additional eight-game block at 10 a.m. Eastern on Sunday.
After that round, the top 24 will compete in round-robin match play Sunday and Monday before the top five advance to the stepladder finals Tuesday at 7 p.m. Eastern, exclusively on CBS Sports Network.
