Annika Sorenstam even par through seven and then chips in for eagle enroute to a four-under 68

Ann Arbor, Mich. — The 8th edition of the US Senior Women’s Open is only in its 8th edition, and patterns are emerging. Juli Inkster still loves to play competitive golf. Defending champion Becky Morgan is enjoying another great tournament and do not count out Annika Sorenstam, the GOAT of women’s golf. Barton Hills CC is a great test of golf and the women know any Donald Ross course is to be respected.
Annika Sorenstam is your first round leader
Sorenstam got off to a slow start in the first round. Seven straight pars starting off the back nine turned into a magical shot from just off the green which turned into an eagle. Sorenstam’s mood instantly changed. “You know, just very patient,” she said. “I felt like I was in a good spirit, just happy to be here. I love the place. I think most of all just didn’t really push it, just not a lot of mistakes. You know, nothing great in a sense, although that chip was great [for eagle on No. 17]. It’s a good feeling, of course. It takes the lid off the cup, if you know what I mean. It’s, like, okay, I can do this.” Two more birdies and Sorenstam leads by one.
Kerrie Webb rockets up the board
World Golf Hall-of-Famer Webb showed a solid performance scoring. Five birdies against a bogey through 12 was tempered by a double-bogey on the 395 par-four 14th.
Michelle Redman has the early lead
Two-time LPGA winner Michelle Redman takes the early lead after Juli Inkster’s late round crooked number. Redman played on the LPGA Tour from 1992 through 2011 and had two victories: the 1997 JAL Big Apple Classic and the 2000 First Union Betsy King Classic. She had her best finish on the money list in 2000, placing tenth. She was a member of the U.S. Solheim Cup team in 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2005. Her four birdies sprinkled with a bogey show solid play.
Only a triple can keep Juli Inkster Down
At 66-years-young, Juli Inkster still has game and a passion to play golf. Five birdies against a bogey got Inkster to four under early. Then a seven on the par four 15th got Inkster. She did earn a birdie on the short par- four 17th got her to two-under.
