WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. –– The New Mexico men’s golf team continued play Tuesday at the 2024 NCAA West Lafayette Regional with the second round at the Kampen-Cosler Course of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. The Lobos shot 5-under during the second round to move up one spot to fourth place at 3-under after 36 holes of the event.
The top five teams at the regional will advance to the NCAA Championships. Top-seeded Vanderbilt continues to lead the tournament with a score of 16-under through 36 holes. Host Purdue is second at 15-under, while Arizona is third at 9-under. New Mexico is in fourth at 3-under, one shot ahead of Florida, who is fifth at 2-under. Mississippi State is sixth at 2-over, putting the Lobos five shots ahead of the cut line as they head into the final round.
Matthew Watkins shined during the second round, shooting a 5-under 67, to move into the individual top 15 at 1-under for the tournament. His round included six birdies and an eagle on the par-5 6th. Bastien Amat is also T-13th individually at 1-under after shooting an even par 72 on Tuesday. Carson Herron shot a 1-under 71 and Connor Adams added a 1-over 73 during the second round for the Lobos. Albert Boneta rounded out the UNM lineup with a 75 on Tuesday.
“It was a good round, even though it was a struggle a little bit in the middle,” said head coach Jake Harrington. “Watkins came through with a 5-under for us and that really propelled the team. There was a lot of solid play. We are excited about the round and it put us in good position as we head into tomorrow.”
Wisconsin’s Huss second in individual honors
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – After 36 holes at the 2024 NCAA Regional tournament, Cameron Huss of Wisconsin men’s golf is tied for fifth place at four-under par.
The Wisconsin senior shot an impressive 66 (-6) in the opening round of the tournament, before carding a 74 (+2) in the second round. The 2024 Big Ten Medal of Honor winner for Wisconsin male student-athletes, Huss is making his second individual NCAA Regional appearance (2022, 2024) and third overall after competing with Wisconsin’s team in 2023.

Huss shot a two-over 74 in the second round of NCAA Regionals, placing him tied for fifth headed into the final round.
The UW senior remains in the lead for the individuals competing in the tournament. If he records the lowest score among individuals not on a team, he will advance to the 2024 NCAA National Championship in Carlsbad, California.
