Stanford’s (not so) secret weapon? Depth shines again in dominant win

Fans of college golf will not be surprised to hear the Stanford women’s team won its fourth consecutive tournament Tuesday. The Cardinal, the nation’s top-ranked team, topped the field at the Bruin Wave Invitational by 22 shots, setting the event’s team scoring record of 21-under 843 at Valencia Country Club in California.

But perhaps the more impressive feat of Stanford’s stretch of dominant play is that its entire lineup is contributing. On Tuesday, it was Paula Martin Sampedro making a birdie on the final hole to win medalist honors by a shot over teammate Andrea Revuelta, who two weeks ago claimed the trophy while competing as an individual. U.S. Women’s Amateur champion Megha Ganne was not in the lineup for the Cardinal this week, and it didn’t matter.

Martin Sampedro became the fourth Stanford player to win an individual title in 2025-26, the second straight season four different Stanford players have won a tournament. Ganne, a senior, and sophomore Meja Ortengren claimed medalist honors of their own in the fall.

Add in Kelly Xu’s T-4 finish at Valencia CC and Ortengren’s T-6, it adds up to another dominant showing from the Cardinal, the deepest team in women’s college golf.

Martin Sampedro’s win is the third of her college career, becoming the 10th Stanford player with at least three career victories. Revuelta added her name to that list last week, while Ganne also stakes claim to the club.Need a news break? Check out the all new PLAY hub with puzzles, games and more!

Co-hosts Pepperdine and UCLA placed second and third, respectively, while Pepperdine’s Kylie Choi tallied a third-place finish individually.

But as has been the case in post-COVID college golf, Stanford dominated yet another tournament, with its depth on full display.
