PORTAGE, Mich. — For the second straight year, the Western Michigan University women’s golf team claimed the title of Bronco Fall Classic champions.

Sophomore Danielle Daniy became the first Bronco to win an individual tournament title in five years on Tuesday afternoon at WMU’s annual home fall tourney. Daniy shot her second round under par to close out the classic with a final score of 212 (-4), giving her the second-lowest total for a 54-hole performance in program history. As a team, the Brown and Gold carded rounds of 298-294-304 to finish at 896 (+32) for the program’s ninth-lowest total in a 56-hole tournament.

Along with having all three of her rounds either at or under par, Daniy put her name in another category of the record book at the Bronco Fall Classic. Dainy’s first round score of 69 tied her for the sixth-lowest round in program history along with several other former Broncos. Over the course of three rounds at 69-72-71, Daniy was the only individual to finish the tournament under par to take the title.

Two other Western Michigan players finished in the Top 10 of the Bronco Fall Classic to help propel the team to the win over Butler, Dayton, and IU Indy. Junior Saanvi Venkatesh placed fifth overall as she carded rounds of 77-71-77 for a final score of 225 (+9). Freshman Annie Flavin finished right behind Venkatesh in seventh place with a score of 226 (+10) after rounds of 76-74-76.

WMU’s final two golfers that contributed to the team score over the past two days were junior Lauren Lupinek at 235 (+19) and senior Bella Brooks at 240 (+24). The Brown and Gold had three individual golfers finish the tournament on Tuesday as well. Sophomore Lea Lemieux led Western Michigan’s individual field with a final total of 236 (+20) as she began the tournament with a season-low round of 76.

Bronco freshman Abigail Stendahl and Katie Pill closed out the WMU lineup for the fall tournament. Stendahl finished tied for 19th after carding rounds of 76-82-79 for a total of 237 (+21). Pill finished 25th overall with rounds of 80-79-86 for 245 (+29).

Dayton senior Kylee Heidemann, the 2025 Bronco Fall Classic Individual champion, finished as the runner-up on the individual leaderboard. Butler, at 904 (+40), placed second on the team leaderboard after rounds of 295-303-306.

WMU only has a week off before participating in the team’s final tournament of the 2026-27 fall season. The Brown and Gold are headed to the Palmetto State for the Edisto Island Invitational hosted by the College of Charleston. It will be Western Michigan’s first time participating in the tournament and only the third time the program has competed in South Carolina. The tournament will be 54 holes across two days starting on Monday, October 19.
