Darlington Raceway President Josh Harris talks to Roy and Bob about track history…. how to buy tickets and Heim vs. Hocevar

By Roy J. Akers — www.skyviewsports.net

When it comes to being a historic NASCAR track, it gets no better than Darlington Raceway. The track was built in 1950 and was the first super speedway in NASCAR racing. Sept. 4,  Running of the first Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway, NASCAR’s original superspeedway race, the first for “stock cars.” 75 cars entered the event while some 25,000 fans watched from the grandstand and infield. Race was won by Californian Johnny Mantz, the slowest qualifier in the field. He blitzed the field by using a hard-compound truck tire while others kept blowing tires throughout the race. :While Mantz will not make the Cup series HOF, there have been plenty of HOFers that have won at the track including David Pearson, who has won 10 CUP races at the track. Darlington Raceway President Josh Harris joins Roy Akers and Bob Francis as we talk history (archived highlights) and the Carson Hocervar vs. Corey Heim emerging rivalry. In 15 minutes, you will be glad you watched.
